10 Days Combined Uganda and Rwanda safari tour: Seeking a more immersive experience, embark on the 10-day combined Uganda and Rwanda safari Tour. The trip takes you to both Uganda and Rwanda’s key national parks. You will visit Volcanoes National Park mainly to have a close encounter with the gorillas, even still in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. From here, you will proceed to Uganda’s second largest park (Queen), mainly to view wildlife through the game drive and a boat cruise along the 32km natural channel.  Day 8 of your 10 days takes you to the primate capital of the world mainly to view these amazing chimpanzees. The 10-day combined Uganda and Rwanda safari is a complete adventure that leaves you fully immersed in nature.

Detailed itinerary

 Day 1: Arrival, city tour, and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.

On your arrival at  Kigali international airport, you will be welcomed and be picked by your trained tour guide who will brief you and then take you through  your travel plan of the 10 days  Uganda and Rwanda safari .Before going on the excursion, you will have a city tour covering key land forms such as a visit to Kigali’s genocide memorial centre, the major city market, the old presidential palace museum, and artisan stores for souvenirs are among them. After the city tour the guide will drive you to volcanoes national park to your lodge to enjoy lunch and relaxation.

Accommodations: Luxury option: One & only/ Bisate lodge, Midrange option:  Five Volcanoes lodge Budget option: Lebambou lodge/ Classic

Meal plan: Dinner& breakfast.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Visiting Ibyiwachu cultural village.

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the lodge in the morning before heading to the park headquarters (Kinigi).  The journey allows you to travel through Rwanda’s Switzerland as you view the scenic views of the breathtaking surroundings

Upon your arrival at the briefing point, you will be highlighted on the perfect conduct on how to behave with the gorillas with in their natural habitat, from here ready with your hiking gears, water, join in group of 8 people and hike in the jungle.

Once you find them, you will spend one hour with them taking pictures and later you will return to the starting point meet your guide drive back to your lodge to have lunch. After lunch, relax abit then prepare to visit the gorilla guardian village to discover about the Rwandan cultures. You will be welcomed by sounds of the drums from the local people then later be given detailed information about Rwanda’s culture through local traditional performances and many more. In the late evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and visit Ellen de genres camp.

Very early in the morning, get a cup of coffee to warm up, and then be picked up by your guide to receive a quick briefing on how to trek the monkeys at the park headquarters. After that, you will enter the jungle and begin your adventure as you pass via steep slopes, viewing a variety of bird species.

In the jungle, upon encountering with these creatures only one hour is offered to you to spend with them. This one hour includes taking photos, viewing closely these animals, eat, play and many more. After trekking descend down to the park head quarters to meet your guide. He will then drive you back to your lodge to enjoy lunch. After lunch, relax abit then prepare and visit the Ellen degenres camp. This camp serves as a living testimony for the great works of Dianna Fossey an American primatologist who spent all her time conserving the gorillas. Here you will be able to view all her works and her writings.

In the late evening drive to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Early morning, enjoy your morning tasty meals, prepare to transfer from Rwanda to Uganda. You will cross using the Cyanika border with a stop over at Kabale town for lunch before proceeding to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Evening: After check-in, you will relax at the Hotel, then dinner and overnight.

Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner.

 Day 5: Gorilla trekking in the park.

Start the day with a delicious breakfast at the lodge in the morning before heading to the park headquarters for the briefing.  Upon arrival at the briefing point, you will be highlighted on the perfect conduct on how to behave with the gorillas with in their natural habitat, from here ready with your hiking gears, water, join in group of 8 people and hike in the jungle.

Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and evening game drive.

You will have to wake up very early in the morning, grab your self a cup of tea and then set off to queen Elizabeth national park which is Uganda’s second largest national park. As you reach the park, you will be checked in and then driven to your lodging. Check in at the lodge, enjoy lunch then get to the park for your evening game drive. Here you will get to see plenty of animals such as the lions, the leopard, buffaloes to mention but a few. Following the game drive, head back to your lodge, refresh, have dinner and then prepare for tomorrow.

Day 7:  Morning Game drives and Kazinga Boat Cruise.

Your day will begin early by 6:30 am with a hearty breakfast, the sunrise time is usually the best time to spot animals in their natural habitats. Heading off for a game drive at the break of dawn you will be able to see Africa’s highly famed “Big 4”, Bush Bucks, Giant Hogs, Antelopes, Waterbucks and plenty of birds.

After the game drive, drive back to your lodge to enjoy lunch.  Have lunch then un wind, later embark on a 2 -hour Boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel which connects Lakes George and Lake Edward. A boat cruise along this water channel   rewards with views of concentrations of the giant hippos, elephants, crocodiles and plenty of bird species along the water shores.

Day 8: Game drive and transfer to Kibale Forest.

In the morning, you will be picked up by the safari driver guide to embark on a game drive with in Mweya as you spot various species of animals such as elephants, lions, giraffes, water buck and many more.  After the game drive prepare to transfer to Kibale National Park the primate capital of the world.

Enjoy the sceneries like the typical African village setup in the far countryside and tea plantations along the drive ways. You will visit some of the crater lakes before retiring to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi nature walk.

Begin your day with a cup of coffee, then drive with your guide to the park headquarters (Kanyanchu visitors centre). Trekking chimps starts with a briefing on how to perfectly conduct your self with the chimpanzees and the rules to follow while in the jungle.

Ready with your hiking gears you will join a group of people then ascend in to the jungle passing through the steep slopes and rugged terrains.  On your journey, you will be able to see certain monkey and bird species.  The moment you meet up with these amazing creatures only one hour is granted to you for interaction.

From here have lunch at your lodge then do a Bigodi swamp walk in the late afternoon. Bigodi swamp is a home to many bird, animal and plant species.

Later in  the evening, you will drive to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Accommodation: Kibale Tourist camp (Midrange), Kibale Forest camp (Budget)

Meal plan: Full board.

Day 10: Transfer to Entebbe for departure.

Take your morning meals, then prepare to transfer from Kibale to Entebbe international airport. En route lunch will be taken from Fort portal.  Upon reaching Entebbe airport, bid fare well to your guide then fly out. Safe travels.

Best Time to Go on Safari

  • June to October (Dry Season):

    • Best overall wildlife viewing across East and Southern Africa.

    • Animals gather around rivers and waterholes, making sightings easier.

    • Ideal time for the Great Migration river crossings in the Serengeti and Maasai Mara (July–October).

  • December to March:

    • Great time for calving season in the Southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains.

    • Fewer crowds and lush green landscapes.

    • Excellent for birdwatching with migratory species present.

  • April to May (Long Rains):

    • Some camps close due to heavy rains and muddy roads.

    • Cheaper prices and fewer tourists.

    • Beautiful, dramatic skies for photography, though game viewing can be harder.


What to Pack for a Safari

  • Clothing

    • Neutral-colored, lightweight clothing (khaki, beige, green—avoid bright colors and dark blue/black which attract insects).

    • Long-sleeved shirts and trousers for sun protection and cooler evenings.

    • A warm fleece or jacket for chilly mornings and nights.

    • Comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots.

    • A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
