Romantic Holiday in Tanzania
Most couples always fall in love with Africa. And we have nothing better to offer than taking them there. One of the countries whose romance is exceptional is Tanzania. Coupled with numerous wildlife parks and reserves and serene beaches, this East African country is your perfect romantic escape. Couples come here to propose, celebrate anniversaries, and spend their blissful honeymoon.
A Tanzania romantic holiday in a nutshell.
Imagine going somewhere filled with countless scenes, such that you may forget what you’ve come for. Sorry! We mean you’re absorbed by romantic activities. The scenes may be as wild as a lion chasing an antelope ferociously in the endless plains of the Serengeti, or as captivating as dolphins swimming next to you in the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean.
Where to go in Tanzania for a romantic holiday?
It’s hard to separate romance and peace when planning for it. The best thing is to plan for it before you even arrive at your favorite destination. We’ve carefully picked some of the best places couples can go for a romantic holiday.
Serengeti National Park.
Nothing captivates the heart like the name Serengeti. And who knows, maybe the Maasai named it so intentionally to make it famous. Of course, they did so to simply refer to its awe-inspiring, golden plains that ‘run forever.’ But as you enter the gate of this world-renowned park, you realize that you’re in an amazing wildlife haven, home of the Great Migration and the ferocious Big Five.
Sometimes, it gets so crowded there, but there’s hope. There are three private concessions separated by a fenceless border, and they are secluded in such a way that you’ll enjoy quality time with your partner and create new memories to tell your grandchildren some days in the future.
Each concession has exclusive-use, luxurious camps. These include Singita Grumeti Reserve in the Western Corridor, Mwiba Reserve in the southeastern border, and Loliondo Controlled Area in the northeastern border. Moreover, you can find calmness in the main park in camps like Grumeti River Lodge, Namiri Plains, and Nomad Safari Camp.
Or, if you prefer a front-row seat to the wildebeest migration, explorer-style mobile camps, such as Serengeti Under Canvas, Serengeti Safari Camp, and Olakira Migration Camp, are perfect.
Pemba Island.
Part of the Zanzibar Archipelago, Pemba is a lush, unspoiled island, known for large plantations and lush forests. Farmers greatly contribute to the island’s green coloration due to large, expansive cassava, banana, and coconut plantations, not to mention lush, untouched forests.
Why do we love it (and why will you)? Pemba is home to sun-kissed beaches lined by palms and coconuts. It’s not as famous as Unguja, the largest island of the Zanzibar Archipelago, hence perfect for couples seeking peace and a tranquil place to reconnect. And if you’re an adventure-seeking couple, snorkeling and scuba diving reward you with otherworldly scenes of marine creatures.
Pemba has a few resorts and lodges, most of which offer private beaches, guided walks through the streets, sunset dhow cruises, etc. The Manta Resort goes beyond the obvious, offering a private underwater room experience just for couples. It’s only available for two guests per day. Another great place to stay is Fundu Lagoon.
Ruaha National Park.
Probably, you want to see the value of your money, even during the peak season (June to September). Ruaha is a must-visit place. Best accessed by flight from Arusha, Dar es Salaam, or Serengeti, this park lies in the remote South of Tanzania. There are many large elephant herds in the vast wilderness, not to mention massive, 50-strong lion prides and giant baobab trees.
Something to add is that Ruaha offers bucket-list safari activities, tailored for couples. There’s peace in exploring wildlife from the comfort of a boat or canoe in the Great Ruaha River. Add to the list driving in the dark, an experience that will make you spot nocturnal animals, such as leopards, lions, hyenas, and jackals. And importantly, you can sleep under stars in a light, fly sheet.
There’s no shortage of lodges and camps in Ruaha. They are good and small, promising seclusion and intimacy. You can stay at Jabali Ridge (or its exclusive-use villa, Jabali Private House), Nomad Kigelia Ruaha, Ikuka Safari Camp, Kokoko Camp, Kichaka Camp, and Usangu Camp, among others.
