Detailed itinerary
Day 1: City tour and transfer to volcanoes park
Your journey begins with a pickup from Kigali, followed by an engaging city tour guided by our destination expert. During the tour, you will visit significant sites such as Nyamata and Ntarama, both deeply tied to the historical events of 1994. The experience continues with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, offering a deeper understanding of Rwanda’s past. In the afternoon, you will embark on a scenic two-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park, where you will check in for an overnight stay at the luxurious Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking & Ibyuwachu cultural village
The day begins with a detailed briefing on the gorilla trekking experience, where you will learn everything you need to know before setting off. You will then be assigned to a specific gorilla family and, together with your group, head into the forest accompanied by experienced park rangers and optional porters. The trek can take between three to five hours depending on the gorillas’ location. By midday, you will return to meet your guide and enjoy a hot lunch. In the afternoon, the adventure continues with a visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for traditional performances, or alternatively to the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, where you will explore her conservation legacy through exhibitions and a virtual reality gorilla experience. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and transfer back to kigali
After an early breakfast, you will set out for golden monkey trekking, beginning with a briefing about these rare and playful primates, found only in the Virunga Massif. Following the trek, you will return to the lodge by midday and enjoy a hot lunch. In the afternoon, you will embark on a scenic drive back to Kigali, marking the end of your memorable journey.
