Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Kigali: Culture and Serenity

Your Rwandan odyssey begins with your arrival at Kigali International Airport (KGL), where you are greeted by your private, dedicated guide. A seamless luxury transfer whisks you to your urban sanctuary, such as The Retreat by Heaven or Hemingways Retreat Kigali, for your two-night stay. Day 1 is dedicated to unwinding; you’ll enjoy a private, à la carte lunch before settling in to take advantage of your villa’s unlimited luxury amenities. The evening culminates in a curated wine-tasting followed by a private chef-prepared gourmet dinner featuring modern Rwandan fusion cuisine.

Day 2: Kigali Genocide Memorial

Day 2 begins with a profound, privately guided visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, offering a reflective and essential understanding of Rwanda’s resilient spirit. You will then return to your lodge for an afternoon of pure indulgence: an exclusive Spa + Treatment using local, organic ingredients designed for deep relaxation. Your evening concludes with an intimate, fine-dining experience in the city.

Day 3:  The Volcanoes Ultimate Encounter

On Day 3, you either take a scenic drive or a private luxury domestic flight north to the majestic Virunga Mountains. You check into one of the world’s most iconic gorilla lodges, such as Bisate Lodge or Singita Kwitonda Lodge, an architectural masterpiece nestled near Volcanoes National Park. The afternoon introduces you to the work of Dr. Dian Fossey with a visit to the Karisoke Research Center to appreciate the successful conservation efforts. After a magnificent fireside gourmet dinner, an expert will join you for a fascinating lodge-based conservation talk.

Day 4: The Mountain Gorilla Trekking experience

Day 4 is the apex of your journey: the Mountain Gorilla Trekking experience. Following the early morning briefing, you embark on an awe-inspiring trek led by expert trackers to spend a privileged hour with a habituated gorilla family. You return to the lodge for a celebratory lunch and an afternoon of well-deserved relaxation, perhaps enjoying your private villa’s amenities, such as a heated plunge pool or an in-room massage.

Day 5: Nyungwe National Park seamless Transfer

Day 5 involves another seamless transfer (via road or flight) to the southwest and the ancient Nyungwe National Park. You settle into your premier luxury rainforest lodge, such as One&Only Nyungwe House, spectacularly situated amidst tea plantations. The afternoon is yours to choose your gentle adventure: a guided Birding Walk or a relaxed Cultural and Community Tour. Enjoy sundowners overlooking the canopy before a gourmet, farm-to-table dinner.

Day 6: Nyungwe Chimpanzees Trekking experience

Day 6 brings another exhilarating primate quest: an early morning trek to find the energetic Chimpanzees. Upon your return, you can opt for an exhilarating walk high above the forest floor on the Canopy Hiking experience before your final private transfer back to Kigali. You spend your final night in a different, equally high-end luxury property, enjoying a memorable farewell gourmet dinner.

Day 7: Kigali: Farewell

On Day 7, following a leisurely breakfast, your private guide will escort you to Kigali International Airport (KGL) for your departure, carrying indelible memories of Rwanda’s natural and luxurious heart.

Best Time to Go on Safari

  • June to October (Dry Season):

    • Best overall wildlife viewing across East and Southern Africa.

    • Animals gather around rivers and waterholes, making sightings easier.

    • Ideal time for the Great Migration river crossings in the Serengeti and Maasai Mara (July–October).

  • December to March:

    • Great time for calving season in the Southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains.

    • Fewer crowds and lush green landscapes.

    • Excellent for birdwatching with migratory species present.

  • April to May (Long Rains):

    • Some camps close due to heavy rains and muddy roads.

    • Cheaper prices and fewer tourists.

    • Beautiful, dramatic skies for photography, though game viewing can be harder.
